Slot Machines: Common Slot Terms
When trying to understand slot machines it sometimes is necessary to understand some of the terms you'll come across along the way. Slot machines are very simple and have easy games to play. Here are some common terms that you'll encounter that are associated with slot machines.
First slot machine term, and perhaps a favorite among players, is bonus. Some slot machines are based on a particular theme. When you get to come up with a symbol associated with that theme to appear in a winning combination you activate a bonus feature of a slot machine. You then get to pick an item from the screen and get awards or additional credits to play.
Each slot machine will have what is called a candle, which is our next slot term. On top of every slot machine is light with two colors on them. That is called the slot machine's candle. It alerts the slot machine's operator to bring change, or when you make a winning combination and have to be hand paid.
Our next slot machine term is carousel. This refers to the arrangement of a group of slot machines. When machines are grouped into a circular or oval formation on the casino floor, this is called a carousel. Most of the time, all the slot machines in a carousel will play the same denomination.
Our next slot term is bank. As opposed to a carousel arrangement, a bank is a group of slot machines arranged in a row. Most casinos will have their slot machines arranged in this manner.
A coin hopper is our next slot term. It is the container where the payouts are placed. It's a mechanical device that brings your coins into the coin tray when you press the cash out button when you collect your winnings.
Our next slot term is credit meter. It's the display on the slot machine that shows how many credits you have left.
Hand pay, our next term, means that a slot machine attendant would have to hand you your winnings wherein you won't them from the machine directly.
A payline, our next slot term, means a straight line or pattern that goes from symbol to symbol on each reel to show a winning combination. This is a pattern that must show up on the screen so you win something from the slot machine. The winning symbol and pattern combination for a payline can be found on the help screen.
There are a lot more slot terms but these are the slot terms you'll often get to hear (and these are what you need to pay attention to at first since they are related to winning on slot machines).
